Wow. Just wow. Who knew that Jesus would be working in my life so powerfully in one week. Honestly, I've always tried to be a good Christian, but this week I think my life has come together and I'll finally be able to strive for heaven.
This week was the Kentucky Heartland Outreach mission trip, and as you can guess, we went to Kentucky! We split up into crews to repair houses for those in need. My crew worked in hot sun to shingle an entire roof for Ms. Hash, a wonderful and amazing woman. During the week we were preached too by Kyle, but his message didn't hit me until the last day.
He did a demonstration where he had two of the councilors bind him in heavy chains. He then began complaining and complaining, but he couldn't get out of the chains. He went up to one of the councilors and said to them "Surely you know how I can get out of these!?" and they replied "All you have to do is ask." And he shook his head. He couldn't believe it was that easy. He complained some more and shook them and pulled at them, but they just seemed to get heavier and tighter. Then he said to the other councilor. "Surely YOU know how I can get out of these chains!?" and the councilor replied "All you have to do is ask." So Kyle looked a bit put-out and disbelieving, but he tried. "Can you take me out of these chains?" and the councilor did.
It was demonstrating the chains people have in their lives that bind them to Earth and make it harder to find Jesus, and that to get them off...all you have to do is ask.
Another thing that really struck me during this certain service was that while we were there, one of the councilors named Josh was painting a picture to worship God, and Kyle said that you can choose the way you worship. Afterwards Josh heard how touched I was by his praising and he heard I was an artist and he gave me a picture he drew of a cross and inside the cross is the face of Jesus. It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It really means a lot that this stranger I hardly know had given me this picture to let me know that he believes in what I do. What we do...as artists.
I have officially found my place on Earth and it feels amazing.
Amen.
